The central figure does not perform grief or judgment; she simply bears the weight of having been looked at, over and over, until her stillness becomes its own kind of evidence. Around her, the crowd exists in different states of arrival: some faces cut with the finality of a chisel stroke that will not be revised, others still dissolving into the gesture that made them, as though the paint itself remembers the hand's hesitation before it committed
